I’ve been sick over the last few days so I haven’t been able to blog too much but I’m getting back on the mend now 🙂
What I’d like to talk about today is something that I’ve noticed about myself over the last few weeks and what’s been happening here in Lake Louise.
I’ll start from the beginning.
Within Fairmont Hotels, there is an internal recognition program called Service Plus.
Every month, colleagues are nominated for front of house colleague of the month, heart of house colleague of the month and department of the month.
Then each month, there is a meeting to vote on the nominees then at the end of the month, the winner for each department is announced at a lunch reception.
When I first arrived in Lake Louise some nearly 6 months ago, I was surprised by the atmosphere and culture of Lake Louise. It is disappointingly quite popular for partying. Like all the time!
Don’t get me wrong I love to have a few drinks with my friends every now and then, or the exceptions if there’s an occasion like a birthday or a band, or Halloween, but here it seems to be a regular occurrence, pub nights being 3 times a week!!
I’m going to sound like a bloggy nerd here, but I would much rather blog about my adventures or go to the gym or have a movie night with the girls than go out 3 times a week!
So, since I’ve arrived, that’s what I’ve done.
When it comes to work, no matter where I have worked, I have always had a professional approach and attitude which turns out is something that is highly noticed at Fairmont.
At work and at home, I have a bubbly outgoing personality. Due to the fact that my look on life is, there is no point being unhappy, it doesn’t get you anywhere, and if you are unhappy about something in your life, your the only one who can change it.
So every single day, I wake up with a smile on my face, because… I can!
Back to the Service Plus point, I’m very proud to announce, that I have been nominated for Front of House for January 2016.
Let me put this in perspective. Over the winter period, there is somewhat 500 or so colleagues working at the Chateau.
Out of those 500, this month, 5 people were nominated for front of house, and out of those 5, I am one of them.
Looking at these figures, I’ve been given a whole new motivation and encouragement about what I really want while working here at Fairmont. I have the zest for life that I know whatever I put my mind to I can achieve, and after finding out about my nomination, I’m even more determined now than ever.
The Reception for the nominees isn’t for a few more days now, and whatever the outcome, I couldn’t be more proud of myself right now.
Looking back 12 months ago from now and remembering the day I told my boss and my family and friends that I was leaving to move overseas. I was terrified and anxious about everything, leaving my job, leaving my home, my country, my friends and family for a huge venture still unknown.
I fast forward back to present day and I know it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
