Sunday, December 18th 2016 – PLEASE STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT 2016

may-2016-is-the-messiest-year-this-decade-even-2012-4311815

If I see one more F#%$ing meme about 2016 being sooo baaaddd, I am going to lose it.

(This is me losing it now by the way)

For weeks now, all that is spreading around on social media is how bad of a year everyone has had this 2016.

But really, was it really that BAD FOR YOU?

People please stop spreading negative nancy news on social media about how awful your 2016 was when you have a healthy family to go home to, or you are blessed to be able to travel the world, or you finally got that promotion/house/wedding that you have been waiting for and just having a life in general.

Yes, I do know some really crappy things have happened this year-

Please note, This is not meant to be insensative or offend anyone, especially if there is anyone reading this who have been personally affected by such things this year. BUT really if that hasn’t personally affected you, please for the love of god stop complaining.

Do I think that Brock Turner should be locked up for life, YES! Do I agree with Trump being voted into a position of power? HELL NO.

I understsnd that with that ‘cheerio head’ our generation is about to take a step backwards  after 30+ years of slow progress. But, that is because little by little, our society is letting it happen. Our society is continuesly focusing on the negative in the world, that is why ‘2016 was such a bad year’. Let’s fast forward 12 months shall we and lets see what happens in 2017 hmm..

So many people were focused on Trump not winning the election, but there was too much publicity and attention for him not to be. Everyone could see that coming from a mile away.

Life is about interpretation and if you take on all of the negative things that have happened this year instead of focusing on all of the positive aspects in your life, negativity will continue to be drawn to you.

68908778

I am working and living overseas and live a life of traveling and peace because I have chosen this life. It is not because of luck or chance. It is about the law of attraction ( I will be going into further detail about this in another blog post)

You have the choice to live a positive life too.

I am not being ignorant about the bad crap that happens in the world either. I know that bad things happen everyday. But you aren’t going to help anyone but taking on their negativity. It is a cycle. Promote positiveness and that is what will be received in return.

I’ve had my own share of bad days this year, just because I generally don’t post about them, doesn’t mean they don’t happen. I just choose not to focus on them, and if I do, it is to make a point or show a lesson from something to have learnt from. I always choose a positive from a bad day.

We all have bad days, and that is ok. Take them for what they are. But has there really been 352 days so far of bad days this year??

Still don’t believe me- check out the good things that happened this year ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday, December 16th 2016 – Dancing is good for the soul

As we approach the festive season of Christmas and New Years, I thought this might be an appropriate time to post this blog of mine.

Dancing and music has always been something that has made me feel good. Now I’m not a musician (although I tried a couple of times to learn guitar and fell out of habit each time) and I’m certainly no dancer, but I have fun with it none the less. I’ve taken the Zumba classes and my friends dance school adults classes on a Tuesday night when I was back in Australia.

But my most favourite habit of all, in dancing of a morning when I’m getting ready for work!

Each morning I’ll have the music going in the shower, in my room while I’m doing my hair and makeup, even when I’ve got the kettle on for my coffee.

I like to think of it as ‘waking up on the right side of the bed’ but with music and dancing. I promise you, you will be in the best mood for a good part of the day if not all day!

I used to listen to music in my car in Australia on the 40 minute commute to Tafe or the 5 minute drive to work. It’s a little bit different now with my 5 minute walk through knee deep snow to work ๐Ÿ˜‚

So, music and dancing isn’t just for the celebration time of the year. It’s for 365 days a year when you wake up, grateful for the life you have been cherished with ๐Ÿ’œ

Wednesday, December 14th 2016 – Dogsledding

So a week ago, myself and a fellow Aussie friend did one of the most iconic Canadian tourist things that you can do out here in The Rockies. We went dogsledding!!!

And dear holy jesus, it was the coldest I have ever been in my whole life. The temperature outside was about minus 16 degrees celsius, and we were still game enough to go dogsledding.

We had our tights and underclothes on, with a couple layers of sweaters, a Canadian winter jacket, snow pants, scarves, beanies and gloves!

After we decked ourselves out in the winter gear, we headed down to the Great Divide parking lot, just 2 or 3 kilometres down from the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, where we met up with our guides for the 90 minute Great Divide dogsledding adventure ๐Ÿ™‚

15267736_10154306544564842_2242434245575216916_n

As sunny and beautiful as it looked, there was a distinct chill in the air. The kind that made your nose hairs freeze and made your eyelashes stick together when you blink. That really dry cold moutain air. You know the kind I’m talking about.

We were then introduced to our team of dogs as well as our guide Megan “Queen of Kimgmik”, from Kingmik Dog Sled Tours. She was really cool and told us all the names of the dogs and handed out packet hand warmers (we would definitely need these later on).

Bonnie and I snuggled into the sled and made ourselves as warm and comfortable as possible and I soon pulled out the GoPro to get as much footage as I possibly could without my hand frezzing and snapping off haha.

15284969_10154306544704842_3198563578942525810_n

While we waited in the sled, the dogs became very impatient and we could tell that they were ready for this adventure just as much as we were!

It wasn’t long and we were off sledding down along the already carved path in the sled behind the dogs, casually passing people on the cross country skiing trail.

The dogs were beautiful and canine athletes in their prime.

Bonnie and I just sat back and enjoyed the view while listening to our guide tell us stories about how long she had been dogsledding for and more about the dogs as well as the area around the Great Divide.

The snow capped trees surrounded us on the trail, with big white mountains directly infront of us, just so grande that it was overwhelming.

After about forty minutes, we reached the Great Divide arch and turned around and Megan parked the dogs so we could get our for a stretch and move our feet around. This is also when the hand warmers came in handy. I pulled them out of my pocket, gave them a shake and placed them on the inside of my gloves to warm up the hands.

We got some fun pics with the dogs and gave them another quick pat before heading back for the rest of the journey.

As cold as it was in the sled (your body isn’t really moving and your feet get cold from laying still) it was honestly one of the most amazing experiences I have had the pleasure of being a part of while out here in Canada.

Check out my amateur GoPro video and get in contact with this amazing team if your looking to do a tour while out here in The Rockies ๐Ÿ™‚

Monday, December 12th 2016 – I sometimes have 20 different drafts at once (now 21)

Have you ever come up with a blog idea in the middle of nowhere, but you don’t have time to sit down and pour your heart out into the post?

There has been so many times when I go “oh yeah, I want to blog about this topic”. I will create a draft and come back to it in a few days.

I feel like out here in Lake Louise, now that I have so to speak settled back in, I have been re-motivated and re-energized. I am finding a lot of inspiration from the people around me out here for things to blog about at the moment.

I currently have over 20 different drafts sitting in my drafts folder, just waiting to be written. It’s funny though because I will go through fases, where I have so many great pieces and want to write all the time, for weeks even. Then out of the blue, I can go weeks with out having an idea or doing a post.

I guess it’s like when you fall and out of the habit of going to the gym haha.

Happy Blogging ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday, December 9th 2016 – Help! I think I’ve lost the travel bug

For a couple of weeks, I had gone into panic mode. I though I had lost the travel bug!

For the longest time in my adultish life, I had always had this itch, this feeling that I had to keep looking for something. Like I was alwaysย missingย something.

After my surgeries in 2012, I was finally free of the medical demons that had been holding me back so I began travelling.

I have been told that I am one of thoseย Millennial Travelers, who takes advantage of the ease, convenience and low cost of travel. I had the travel bug for sure! I needed to see as much as I possibly could. The more you travel, the less scary it actually becomes to be in a foreign country.

I am always in search of something that was always missing. I can’t tell you exactly what it is. Travel? Success? Career? Husband? I actually couldn’t tell you the right answer. All of the above? haha

I also felt I needed to travel, because well, I could. This may be a selfish statement, but I actually see it as the complete opposite. I am fortunate. I have been raised with fortunate opportunities. I am blessed to have a life, and the life that I have. So, ย I travel to make the most of my blessed life at this point in my life, before I do have the house and the mortgage and the husband.

A couple of weeks ago, I went into panic mode and lost the travel bug completely! I just wanted a normal life again. I was beating myself up about being that ‘selfish’ person that has to travel. I needed to know why in my head, I felt that I no longer needed to travel the world, when it was something that had been on my mind for so long.

Well fear not followers, the bug has returned! I sat down one day and pulled out a world map and looked at the countries and destinations that I wanted to visit next.

England, Peru, Costa Rica, Spain.. You name it, I had it on the list. I then started prioritizing where I wanted to go first, and how much each destination would cost me.

(Mind you, I can’t actually afford any of this yet, but making lists and organizing my thoughts helps me focus and know that it is achievable in the long run!)

So after I looked at costs and other things, I pulled up about 5 different travel companies to make comparisons. Contiki, G Adventures, Gecko’s Adventures, Live Before Workย and Intrepid Travel. I figured out which tours would be the most affordable and practical and gathered my mind back to where I needed it to be.

I never want to have to apologize for being a traveller. It’s something that will always be there.

Sunday December 4th 2016 – Superfoods :)

On the note of ‘Knowledge Is Power‘ I thought I would share a little secret of mine.

Since coming out to Canada, my eating habits have changed dramatically from the all filling amazing home cooking in Australia.

I have since though discovered, that I used to be an over indulger. I would eat EVERYTHING that were served to me on my dinner plate, and after all, that is how we are brought up. To not waste food and eat what is on your plate before you were priveledged with any dessert.

With being three of us children, plus Mum and Dad, Mum would cook enough food for an army and evetually I learnt this practice also. Cook more than I needed. Eat as much of it as possible, and use the leftovers the next day etc.

I was never an unheatlhy person as such, but I did enjoy my fast food every now and then and certainly ate more than I needed to because, well food was there for the taking and enjoying.

When I arrived to Lake Louise in September 2015, it all changed.

I had lived out of home before and buying my own groceries for myself was certainly never as issue. But there was just something different about the people here in Lake Louise.

Things like, ‘kale’ and ‘coconut oil’ were the norm for everyday foods and cooking.

Certain superfoods began making their way into my life, and I was learning about benefits that I had never paid much attention to before. Research and positive infuences were shaping the way I was changing my diet and lifesyle.

I used to make smoothies some mornings before work at home, that included incredients such as fresh fruits that I had frozen and coconut milk and of course my all time favourite, ‘chia seeds’.

I changed my Australian canola cooking oil to coconut oil. Cooking with canola oil can have long term effects on heart damage where as coconut oil digests much easier, putting less stress on the pancreas, increases the absorption of minerals into our bones for bone strength and does wonders for the immune system!

I changed my breakfasts from toast and coffee to my daily superfood smoothie.

This is just one of my little creations of my smoothies, and ideally I would have more greens such as spinach or kale for more vitamins, anti-oxidants and eye health ๐Ÿ™‚ but I am currently out and need to do a mini run to the shops soon.

Anyway, what I have below is-

Coconut Milk-  Antiviral and antibacterial properties. For more information, click here ๐Ÿ™‚

Chia Seeds aka SUPERFOOD – Digestion, heart health and metabolism. Wanna know more, click here ๐Ÿ™‚

Yoghurt- I toss between greek yoghurt and Activia yoghurt (Convenience of buying at our local staff shop). We all know that the benefits of eating yoghurt daily is the natural bacterias that assist with digestion and immune system.

Frozen grapes- Protein, calcium and vitamin C. Freezing my grapes makes them last longer for my smoothies. For more information- click here!

Frozen strawberries and mangoes- Well other than the obvious benefits of these yummy tropical fruits, they taste amazing in my smoothies ๐Ÿ™‚

Fresh ginger- Heart health (as you can tell by now, this is a pretty big one for me), immune sytem, metabolism and helps fight cancers (and by the way, there will probably be a whole nother blog post about foods that help fight cancers and my story behind this, but that is for another post!) ๐Ÿ™‚  Intrigued about ginger? Click here

Thyme- I simply add it to balance the ginger. I discovered it one day when it came in my farm box in the summer. It was already in the box, so I experimented with it, and use it everyday now.

Thank you to my amazing friends out here that have had the positive influence on me and the healthy lifestyle ๐Ÿ™‚

Saturday December 3rd 2016 – Knowledge Is Power

From the day I walked into my primary school, Cowra Public School, I was taught that ‘knowledge is power’. It was our school motto.

cpslogo_1340513692128_m

I always interpreted this as learning at school. Learning what our teachers were teaching us about our times tables and what is gramically correct. I never really fully understood the complexicity of the term until recently.

Everyday we are always learning. Every single day.

If we are not learning, we are not living.

It is always on the forefront of my mind to be able to share information with people that I come into contact with to help them learn something new. I know how excited and motivated I am when I learn something new.

Whether it is something work based, to help someone better their day at work or something personal, information or a hand that I can lend, I have always had the personality of wanting to help others.

The other day, a friend thanked me for recommending a particular experience to them that I had also experienced. It was knowledge that was too good not to share. Why would I keep information to myself when I can share it with the world. Better someone else’s day?

I think this is why I blog, to share information!

The more people circulate knowledge, the better off the world becomes.

When you ar excited about something new that you have learnt, or information that you KNOW will help someone else, I feel it is our duty as humans to help other gr0w.

The more you learn, the more you know, the more you know, the more power to you ๐Ÿ™‚

Monday, November 28th 2016 – Fairview Lookoutย

Today, I decided to go for a walk up to the Fairview Lookout to check out the view of the ski hill and all of the snow from up high.

But first, I had to get some amazing pictures of the hotel and the lake on the way.

The sign on the way up to Fairview Lookout

After walking for 1.5 kms, I reached the beautiful lookout that looks over the lake, the hotel and even over to the ski hill!

You can see that the lake is not fully frozen yet and it is quite dangerous to walk on still.

All of these photos were taken on my iPhone! Untouched and unfiltered ๐Ÿ™‚

The snow up at the lookout was atleast 50 centimetres deep. The legs on the chair at the lookout were completely snowed in.

Oh Lake Louise, I will always have a special place for you in my heart โค

Wednesday, November 23rd 2016 – Lake Louise comparison photos

I’ve wanted for a little while now do to a Lake Louise comparison photos post. This amazing little piece of the world transforms overnight from a summer sensation destination to a winter wonderland. And every little bit of it is just as picturesque as the day before.

Today, myself and one of my spa girls decided to go have some fun at the lake ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh yeah, and get some pretty amazing pics! Hello SNOW!!

The lake isn’t fully frozen yet and no where near even safe enough to wak on yet! However I have heard stories of people trying to be brave and being ‘the first one to walk on the lake’.. ย I’ll skip on that thanks.

Being an Aussie, and growing up never having any idea or concept of snow and having never even built a snow man (I know, I never got around to it last winter), today was the day i finally built my first snowman!

15179138_10154270254424842_314036554316390275_n

Okay, so it’s more like a snow ‘pooh-bear’ than a snowman haha. The snow was very dry today so it made it difficult to make a normal big snowman.
